Peripheral Neuropathy Clinic

The Peripheral Neuropathy Clinic at Banner Good Samaritan's Comprehensive Neuroservice Center (CNSC) provides a highly personalized, patient-centered approach towards the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral neuropathy. The CNSC is the latest site to be designated by the Neuropathy Association as a National Neuropathy Center. There are only eight such centers across the U.S.

Under the auspices of co-directors Dr. Todd Levine and Dr. David Saperstein, patients receive state of the art diagnostic testing and treatment in a multidisciplinary setting that includes neuropathy experts, researchers, physical and occupational therapists and a pain psychologist.

Patients may come to the Peripheral Neuropathy Clinic as a self-referral or may be referred by their doctor. A typical clinic visit lasts about two hours, during which the patient is seen by a neurologist who is a neuropathy specialist. Patients will also be seen by experienced physical and occupational therapists that are trained in treating neurological disorders, and a nurse. The clinic has the capability to perform on-site electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies, if deemed necessary by the neurologist. A team conference with all of the healthcare professionals will make recommendations to each patient.

Within a few days of the patient’s clinic visit, the patient will receive a call from the clinic nurse. During this call, the patient is updated on the team’s recommendations and arrangements for the various therapies (such as outpatient physical or occupational therapy) are made. The patient’s case is then managed by the clinic nurse.

The Comprehensive Neuroservice Center also serves as a link between the neurologists, therapists, pharmacists, and nurses and the neuropathy community in Arizona. The center works closely with the Neuropathy Association and plans to be actively involved in the neuropathy support groups in Arizona.
